Benjamin Sheares College
Service, Leadership, Scholarship

is one of four colleges in Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School and is named after late president and physician Benjamin Henry Sheares (12 August 1907 – 12 May 1981). He was Singapore's second President and "Father of Modern Obstetrics and Gynaecology" (O&G). He achieved several firsts for Singapore in this field - first Singaporean to specialise in O&G and first local to be appointed Professor of O&G at the University of Malaya in Singapore. He pioneered the Lower Segment Caesarean Section which is now gold standard and used extensively today. He also created the vaginoplasty surgical procedure, which was named after him, and became internationally recognised after he published a paper on it in 1960.

The College has three core values : Service, Leadership and Scholarship. Our activities are centered around these themes and this year, we have decided to partner with Rainbow Center to organize the First World Autism Awareness Day in Singapore as well as to produce a Mandarin translation website for taking medical history. Our other college activities are designed to provide an avenue to relax, discuss issues and to forge bonds.
